What will $400,000 get a homebuyer in six different states across the country? These six homes have features to boast about, from charming gardens to modern architecture. But a difference in location can amount to either a studio or seven bedrooms.

If the choice was yours, which one would you choose?

1. Bellingham, Wash. $399,000 (pictured above): 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

About 20 miles south of the Canadian border, this home is touted as “the best the Northwest  has to offer — sleek modern design with warm touches and an unbeatable location” the listing states.

Single Family: 1,915  square feet

Lot: 11,325 square feet

Year Built: 2012

2. Berkeley, Calif. $399,000: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

The listing describes this Northern California home as a “beguiling cottage with original redwood detail in secret garden setting. Privacy, serenity, classical charm.”

Single Family: 902 square feet

3. Stockton Springs, Maine $399,000: 7 bedrooma, 5 -bathrooms

Once a bed and breakfast, this “historic home” in this coastal town has a barn attached to the home plus a “new kitchen, gentlemen’s parlor, living room, library, dining room, sun porch, first-floor master bedroom and elegant foyer,” the listing states.

4. Maple Grove, Minn. $399,000: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

About 15 miles from Minneapolis, “This rare offering in Fieldstone Meadows boasts stylish amenities, a large and modern floor plan, and attractive decor, all in a move-in ready package,” the listing states.

Lot: 14,374 square feet

Year Built: 2008

5. Lafayette, Colo. $395,000: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms

The listing describes the home as  ”Light filled and charming, this 3 bedroom tri-level is in a great Indian Peaks subdivision on a corner lot, very close to the park.”

6. New York City $400,000: studio, 1 bathroom

This New York City apartment is listed as a “large studio” on a “high floor” with “lots of light”. It includes a “separate kitchen” with a “top of the line roof deck” with “24/7 concierge,” according to  the listing.
